Winter is coming to the north, dense fog in Panchagarh in mid-autumn

Desk Report:

It is autumn according to the six seasons. Winter is still about three months away. But in the meantime, in Panchagarh, the northernmost district of the country, the nature of the morning was covered with a thick blanket of fog this Saturday. Drivers had to drive vehicles with headlights on from dawn until at least 10 am.

According to Jitendranath Roy, officer-in-charge of Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, this is a sign of the arrival of winter. The lowest temperature recorded this morning was 25 degrees Celsius. As a result, the people of the district, known as the daughter of the Himalayas, also felt the cold on the day of Ashwin.

Local residents said, ‘A few days ago, fog was seen in different parts of the district in the morning. However, today’s fog was thicker and longer lasting.’

Saifullah, a resident of Talma area of Sadar upazila, said, ‘I woke up in the morning and saw thick fog all around. I couldn’t see anything even a few feet away.’

Autorickshaw driver Rajiul said, the road was not visible even with the headlights on. This has caused inconvenience in driving.

Jitendranath Roy, the officer-in-charge of the Tentulia Meteorological Observatory, told Fast Bangla that such fog has been created due to the inactivity of the monsoon winds. Usually such fog is temporary and clears between 9 am and 10 am.

Citing the sudden dense fog as a sign of the arrival of winter, Jitendranath Roy said, “The minimum temperature recorded this morning (Saturday) was 25 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature throughout the day is likely to be between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius.”
